Empower, transform and succeed are the key words for a new approach to educating youngsters who have lost their way in education and life.

Mark, Sean and Keiran are setting up a unit in Northiam called the Commando Academy which will enable youngsters who have not coped with mainstream education to return to it. The predominantly veteran staff brings a strong ethos to empower young people to be their best, tailoring their approach daily to meet the individual needs of each student, creating a dynamic and supportive educational environment.

Commando Academy offers a programme aimed at engaging and inspiring young people,  through an eclectic mix of new experiences, self-discipline, education and mentoring.

Mark told Rye News about this exciting provision for youngsters. “We support students back into mainstream education with newfound confidence a clear personal purpose. Our programmes instil an ethos inspired by the elite Corps of Royal Marines with a focus on excellence, integrity, self-discipline and humility.

“Students will gain qualifications and skills that can open doors to further education or employment opportunities.”

Commando Open Evening

They are holding an open evening on February 27 from 5pm to 6:30pm at 28 Goddens Gill, Northiam, Rye TN31 6QE

Why not come and see their vision and see how you can get involved either as a volunteer or see how this might help your child?

Mark explained that this week they had been running a special event for youngsters,

“We held the anti-knife-crime event yesterday with seven students whom all have either been stabbed or been involved with gangs and knife-crime, the aim was to teach young people to use other methods rather than knives but also how to defend themselves in an attack with emphasis on running away at all times where possible.”

  1. I believe the open evening is in the Scout Hut, Goddens Gill, Northiam. Turn left after the flats and follow the track round until you reach a large parking area. The hut is there. It sounds fantastic and we look forward to finding out more on 27th.
