Starting next Wednesday the Music Well, which encourages wellbeing through music, starts a new course on Wednesdays from September 11 at the Rye Creative Centre in New Road, Rye from 11am to 12 noon.
All ages are welcome and the message from The Music Well is: “Come and have fun as well as improving your breathing sharing songs in a friendly group – all ages are welcome.”

Tramps Shindig
The Pett Branch of the Royal British Legion are holding a “Tramps Shindig with the Cockney Sparrows” this Saturday September 7 at the Fairlight Lodge Hotel at 7pm for 7:30pm with a two-course supper followed by music and dancing.
Tickets are £18 per head from Fairlight Post Office (or possibly the hotel) with prizes for the best costume and also a grand raffle and any profit going to this year’s Poppy Appeal.
Northiam showtime
It’s showtime in Northiam this Saturday, September 7 with both the Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show and an organ recital in St Mary’s Church. The show features flowers, veg, fruit, flower arranging, photos, baking and preserving.
And in the evening Nathan James (a freelance organist and choral composer ) will be performing with East Kent’s leading concert pianist David Ruddock. Ancient trails run
Starting and finishing in Rye this Sunday, September 8, this 30k multi-terrain race wanders through ancient woodland, orchards and farmland to raise funds for the Oliver Curd Trust.
Runners can enter online or on Sunday at race HQ behind Rye Sports Centre – behind the station in The Grove.
Riding charity fundraiser
Later in the month on Sunday, September 22 the Riding for the Disabled’s Fairlight Hall branch stages its first fundraiser with a dog show including agility and show classes, along with a barbecue and stalls from 11am until 2pm.
Cellars and concerts
Rye Arts Festival also takes place in Winchelsea with concerts and cellar tours. Guitarist and composer Laura Snowden is at St Thomas’ Church on Monday September 16 and on Tuesday September 24 cellist Ernst-Simon Glaser will be performing there.
Cellar tours take place on September 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 26 and 28 with 11am starts.

Open studios
As part of the Coastal Currents Arts Festival this year a number of local artists have open studios this coming weekend September 7-8. For more info visit coastalcurrents.org.uk. A local artist who features is Matt Hardman of 54 Ferry Road, Rye, who is “open” both days from 11am to 6pm.
