Autumn Covid booster jabs

The Covid-19 vaccination programme is now entering its third autumn season. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reports that the latest variant BA.2.86, first detected in the UK on Friday, August 18, has a high number of mutations and is appearing in several countries including UK.

The UKHSA argues that a further vaccine programme will deliver greater protection, supporting those at greatest risk of severe illness and reducing the potential impact on the NHS.

A dose of the Covid-19 vaccine will be offered this autumn to people aged 65 and over, residents in care homes for older people, anyone aged six months and over in a clinical risk group, and health and social care staff.

The programme has already started for care home residents. Appointments for others at risk will be available from the national booking service from September 18.

The NHS has said that it will contact you if your record suggests you may be eligible. It asks individuals to wait to be invited for the vaccine.

Clarity Chemists, supported by a team of professional vaccinators and community volunteer marshals are planning now to reactivate the Rye Vaccination Centre at the Tilling Green Centre.
