Thousands of people in East Sussex have registered to play Beat the Street – a free walking and cycling challenge – ahead of its launch this June.
Beat the Street is a seven-week game that will see schools, businesses, community groups and communities across East Sussex compete to see how far they can walk, run or cycle from 6 June to 25 July.
Hundreds of sensors called Beat Boxes will be placed in towns across the county, including Rye. These can be tapped with Beat the Street cards for players to track their journey, earn points and help their chosen team win prizes. Fantastic prizes up for grabs will include sport and fitness vouchers for winning teams and ‘lucky tap’ prizes for individuals.
Anyone interested in joining the challenge is now able to pick up their own Beat the Street card and map at their local library, leisure centre or selected pharmacies. Once registered, players can join a team or set up their own and join in the game from 6 June.
Last year, more than 42,000 people took part in the walking and cycling initiative and together travelled 230,000 miles. Returning for a second year, Beat the Street has been expanded so even more areas can play, as well as more Beat Boxes placed in popular towns from last year.
