Business in focus

Spring is on the way and a good time to be thinking about all those house improvements you might have been planning.

In October, Mark Hanks, who has over 35 years supplying and fitting all types of carpets and flooring set up a new showroom at Atlas Business Park, Rye, where he has over 2000 square metres of flooring in stock.

Mark previously worked from a workshop and office at home in Hastings, but it became clear he was outgrowing it and had nowhere to hold roll stock so was reliant on ordering materials.  Hence the move to large premises in Rye where he could actually display roll stands and have sample display racking installed.

He says “after many years of fitting, the idea is now that I concentrate on the retail and customer service side of the business whilst my son carries on with the majority of the fitting side.”

However, the timing has not been great for him as he got the keys in October and spent nearly six weeks getting it ready to open, installing the roll stands and display stands etc. but when he finally opened, he was promptly told to close after only a few days due to being a non essential retail outlet.

Adapted Customer Services

However many businesses have had to be agile and adapt so that they can continue to offer their services in a safe way during lockdown.

“Due to current government restrictions we have had to temporarily close our showroom to walk-in customers at present, but we are still offering 1-1 appointments at home to measure, show sample books and provide quotations. We can fit your new flooring within days, or you can take away or, if you’d prefer, we offer free local delivery”.

“At present we are also allowed in customers’ houses to install carpets and flooring. Of course we take our customer’s (as well as our own) safety very seriously and abide by all current safety legislation set out by the government at all times. We are currently operating strictly under government guidelines regarding COVID-19 and full details can be found at on our website.”

Armour Flooring has carpets ranging from £5.99 per square metre, vinyl flooring from £8.99 per square metre, and underlays from only £3.99 per square metre.

“We offer a full fitting service. A free, no obligation measure and quotation service is available with a selection from 1000s of samples to view in the comfort of your own home whilst we measure for you.”

The testimonials on Mark’s website show he has many happy customers who have used his services over the years:

“I have used Mark for all of my flooring needs for several years and cannot recommend him highly enough! I would not use anyone else. He is always professional, reliable and does first class work. Thank you, Mark.” Dr S, St Leonards-on-Sea
