Carmen’s Kitchen, ‘The Great Escape’, Peasmarsh Road, Rye Foreign, arranged a Bob Dylan night on Friday, May 17. Many talented local musicians gave their time free. The guitar players were superb with lovely harmonica accompanying different singers and a mandolin. The atmosphere was joyous especially when people were invited to join with any songs they knew.
Carmen Kubisa, also a musician, is a wonderful cook and her staff are very helpful and friendly. The 19th-century former public house has a modern contemporary feel and offers breakfast, brunch and lunch from Tuesday through to Sunday, 9am to 4pm. It has comfortable spaces inside, especially one corner with leather seats which invites you to have a leisurely coffee or wait for lunch to be served. The menu caters for all tastes including vegan and gluten-free options.
There will be further music nights. June 21 sees “Stone the Quos”, an acoustic night of Rolling Stones and Status Quo music. Saturday July 1 brings the Sussex Ukulele Festival from 4pm in the garden. For further information go to Carmen’s Kitchen website or phone 01797 230 494.
