An East Sussex charity which helps people with learning disabilities and autism into paid work has been given a cash boost.
Skipton Building Society’s Charitable Foundation has donated £2,161.42 to Little Gate Farm in Beckley.
Little Gate Farm provides a variety of programmes to help people with learning disabilities and autism into paid employment. The charity was launched in 2013 by Claire and David Cordell after they realised the unique barriers their daughter, who has a learning disability, faced when approaching adulthood.
The farm-based charity also runs an outdoors club for children aged 8 to 18, providing valuable respite time for families while children explore the countryside, make new friends and grow in confidence. Little Gate Farm’s support doesn’t stop there, however – the charity continues to support families once their children have reached adulthood through their Parent Forum.
The money donated by the Charitable Foundation will go towards new sensory toys and equipment which improve children’s coordination, cognitive function, social skills, and problem-solving, to help meet increased demand in the area.
Skipton Charitable Foundation Trustee Alison Davies said: “We’re delighted to support the fantastic charity work being carried out by Little Gate Farm and hope that Skipton’s donation will help these people to gain confidence in themselves and support their educational needs.”
