Christmas flowers arranged

Brede and Peasmarsh Flower Arrangers groups had a joint Christmas meeting to make floral decorations for the festive season and enjoy lunch together.

There were 12 attendees, each making their own arrangement with a Christmas theme, a good excuse to bring in greenery such as holly, ivy, firs of different kinds and pittosporum, to name a few. There was glitter to touch the edges of the flowers, real or silk, Christmas robins, red berries and gold and silver flower heads.

Some of the arrangements

One person had brought two large bowls of orchids to finish with greenery silver ribbons and stars, a number crafted  arrangements with candles and were planning to add fresh flowers nearer to Christmas. An array of jam jars and other receptacles were covered in hessian for decorations made to order for friends. A wide variety of arrangements gradually took shape, and (for once) everyone was pleased with the results.

Rhiannon Oliver, the leader of the group, congratulated us all on the variety and quality of the work, and encouraged everyone by saying she could definitely see improvement in those who had been coming for a while.

Rhiannon and her assistant Sue Sturmey were presented with pots of cyclamen and thanked for all their expertise, tact and skill in helping both groups achieve a reasonable artistic outcome at each meeting. A glass of delicious mulled punch made by Sue was then served to us all, and we shared the food we had brought

The Peasmarsh group would also like thank Deidre Bull, who set up the local meetings and continues to support, encourage and cajole us all in our efforts. If you would like to join,  contact Deidre on 01797 230208. She can also direct readers to the Brede group.

Flower arranging is a lovely skill to learn and make progress with, leading to unexpected friendships and a lot of fun as well. At least we all take home a flower arrangement we can enjoy!
