Curiosity is important in life, and this reporter noticed, after a swim in Rye Harbour, a structure going up which was extraordinary. Joseph Williams was rigging up small sails at the top of the installation and explained that it is a project which is organized by climateart.org.uk and supported by Bridgepoint Rye, Sussex Wildlife Trust and Bamboo import Europe.

The Beacon will be ready and open from Saturday, June 26 and will remain on site until Sunday, July 25. It is a unique feat of engineering, combining the innovate use of stretch fabric technique, never previously used in the UK. The ethos of Joseph’s design is to do more with less, created with responsibly sourced bamboo, the Beacon is to showcase the remarkable, contextual potential of this renewable and potentially carbon-neutral crop.

To mark the launch of Joseph William’s site responsive installation, join the panel discussion exploring alternative, ecological approaches for future environmental sustainable build:
“Future Worlds for a Changing Environment” on Saturday, June 26 from 3pm – 4pm at the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre.
