On Monday, the Hub on Rye Hill was THE place to be and from 10am – 4pm. It was a hive of industry. I have been there many times but have never seen it so well attended and what a brilliant atmosphere there was, the place was buzzing. The sunshine arrived as ordered and after weeks of hard work and preparation by Karen and her fantastic team, older people’s day had finally arrived.
I met many people who had never been to the Hub before, despite some of them living in central Rye but without exception they were all very pleasantly surprised by what they discovered. The event brought the wider community together with so much to see and do, all under the same roof.
The team behind the counter at the café were on overdrive. Teas, coffees, a selection of rolls, pastries and cakes and a £6 meal deal explained why the queue just kept on moving. There were plenty of places to sit and enjoy a cuppa, both inside or out on the sun terrace, the front garden, upstairs (lift served) or downstairs.
‘Rocking Reg’ Marchant and Grundy provided superb live entertainment throughout the day and experts were on hand to advise on a host of subjects, all for free. There was advice on computers and technology, fire safety, hearing and health issues. Also present were numerous voluntary organisations, Iden bowls club, Playden WI as well as craft workshops, massages, table tennis and so much more.
A hugely successful day which was so well attended by visitors and specialists offering so much free advice but if you missed it, be sure to visit the next one. The word is out, the Hub has it all but I’ll let the photos do the talking.
