In celebration of the Tree Council’s 50th anniversary they are kindly supporting the planting of “Golden Orchards” among communities around the UK. Rye Community Food and Wildlife Garden applied to be a part of this project and have been lucky enough to receive five fruit tree saplings to enhance their existing fruit tree population. We received a mix of apricot, apple and plum saplings which have been “heeled in” temporarily until the ground conditions are more suitable to planting. We plan to plant the new trees close to our neighbouring school so that the pupils and staff can observe this fascinating aspect of our natural world and how it works to provide us with food.
Rye Community and Wildlife Garden is located adjacent to the allotments in Love Lane. We meet up on Saturday mornings, 10 – noon, year-round. There are a variety of activities to take part in, if you wish, including planting, crop maintenance, garden maintenance, wildlife conservation and (usually) indulging in plenty of tea, cake, and chat. Please do call in to say hello, absolutely everyone most welcome. This year is our 10th anniversary, and we look forward to celebrating this with our community.
