Last month, Rye News published an article written by Robert Watsham titled, War graves, can you help? It was more an appeal for help rather than an article but curiosity got the better of me and I was keen to find out what the response was so I emailed the author who responded:
“Following on from the exchange of e-mails, let me update you.
Thanks to Rye News, I received five responses from very kind people who have volunteered their services in looking after the war graves in Rye, Rye Harbour, Peasmarsh, Iden and Playden.
My regional coordinator, Jennifer, is really thrilled at the reaction of those individuals and will be following up with them all in due course in order to allocate the various sites.
So, to the people of Rye and on behalf of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, a huge thank you.
With best wishes, Robert.”
We at Rye News are not only grateful to Robert for highlighting this issue but we are also delighted at the outcome of this appeal which not only proves that Rye News plays an important role in connecting and communicating with our community but more importantly it shows how much people care about such an important legacy as the ongoing care and attention our local war graves truly deserve.

Rye has a proud history of service. It is wonderful to see Rye News colleagues highlighting the War Graves and local volunteers caring for the legacy of our brave service personnel at their final resting places. Thank you.
