Danger to shipping

A hazard was reported in Rock Channel on Wednesday morning, June 24 as a section of wire netting installed to stabilise the mud-bank on the south side of the river appears to have  broken away and slipped into the navigation channel.

The danger is that the netting and accumulated weed could foul and snare a boat’s propeller but, at present, as the netting cannot float and is at low tide level, it should not present a problem to boats moving in or out at high tide.

However the condition and stability of the mud bank could be a problem. The harbour master has been alerted and confirms the safety of navigation at high water.  He has referred the issue to the appropriate flood defence department of the Environment Agency.
