Tatners, oysters and bubbles draw the crowds

The Seafood Bar at Rye Fish Market held its final event of this year last Saturday, November 25, celebrating the end of what has been an incredible first season. While lobster rolls and crab sandwiches have been the mainstay of the Seafood Bar’s menu, last Saturday, local chef Kyle Tatner joined the team with his popup Tatner’s Street Kitchen, serving a special ‘surf and turf’ menu including the very popular smoked fish chowder. They were also joined by local DJ ‘Party Marty’ who kept the music playing all day.

There was a party-like buzz throughout the day as friends met up for drinks and food. Many people commented that Kyle Tatner’s street food with a twist had lured them in: he never fails to please. Others opted for oysters and some had a selection from both.

The Seafood Bar opened for the first time in June, and being largely an outdoor venue (although there is also indoor space too), the intention was to run until the end of the summer season. However, it proved so popular with both locals and visitors alike that The Seafood Bar remained open at weekends until December.

According to owner Louise Chapman: “Running The Seafood Bar has been an absolute pleasure. It has given us the opportunity to get to know so many people this year and is really helping to develop an often-forgotten area of Rye into a real ‘destination location’. And our success would not have been possible without the incredible local support – from both businesses and individuals alike, spreading the word, providing advice and visiting come rain or shine! We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. What an amazing town Rye is.”

“While the Fish Market will stay open throughout the year, the team is now looking forward to developing The Seafood Bar for its reopening next year. There are plans to redesign both the inside and outdoor space, create exciting new menus and continue to build upon our educational programme for local school children that began earlier this year.”

The Seafood Bar’s first event for 2024 will be during the Scallop Festival (February 17 – 27). See you all then.
