On Sunday morning October 8, 2017, whilst the Rye Harbour RNLI lifeboat station’s crew were carrying out training and maintenance duties, the Lifeboat Operations Manager, Tony Edwards, was pleasantly surprised when he received a visit from Mr and Mrs White and their grandson Oliver.
A very generous cheque for £4000 was donated in memory of Oliver’s great great aunt Ms Jane White.
Oliver, from Faversham, was given a guided tour of the station before presenting the cheque whilst alongside Hello Herbie II, the new inshore Atlantic 85 lifeboat.
Rye Harbour lifeboat station would like to thank the many people and organisations who have kindly raised monies to pay for the new lifeboat. Thanks also to our fund raising team and volunteers.
The final fund raising event will be an illustrated talk about the Mary Stanford disaster, the worst in the history of the RNLI, where the Rye Harbour crew of 17 all lost their lives. This will be held on Friday October 20 at 6pm in Rye Harbour Church of the Holy Spirit. Tickets £20 (including wine and canapes) are available from Claire Stephenson on 01797 222032 or rc.stephenson@btinternet.com
