Rye’s creative community and friends of the “Ethel Loves Me” brand turned out in force last Friday, July 27 to celebrate the gallery and destination store’s move to larger premises at 105 High Street, on the corner of East Street (Ethel’s original home).
Guests toasted the success of the new venture whilst enjoying summer drinks and delicious hot and cold canapés from the “Devil in Rye” restaurant in the High Street, and children of all ages enjoyed a badge-making workshop led by artist Eleanor Booth.
The large store has plenty more room to showcase the work of new local makers alongside Ethel favourites, and Ethel Loves Me will also be showing the work of a new up-and-coming creative each month, beginning with talented fine artist Bernette Boost, who has recently graduated from London’s Central St Martins.
Ethel Loves Me has been conceived by Rye-based couple Jason and Jo Dorey and their friend Matthew Forbes-Dale as a unique space to show and sell the work of some of the many talented artists, makers and craftspeople in the area, presenting an ever-changing array of one-off work and limited-edition pieces.
