Salts Farm Shop, just outside Rye on the A259, is the first business in the area to sign up to ‘Refill’, an innovative app to help reduce the amount of plastic waste by welcoming people in to refill their water bottle – free.
Launched in Bristol by City to Sea in September 2015, there are now more than 1,600 Refill points around the UK. The Refill App is free to download, showing where you can Refill on the go, or add new places.
Anne Catt, Manager at Salts Farm Shop, says: “This was a no-brainer for us as we refill bottles when asked anyway; and like everyone we are increasingly concerned about plastic pollution. It is super easy to sign up so hopefully other local businesses will join us.”
Single-use plastic bottles are expensive to produce, use up valuable natural resources to make and transport and create  and mountains of waste. And recycling is not the answer either, here in the UK an estimated 800 plastic bottles a minute are ending up either in landfill or as litter.
