The World Market on Strand Quay offered a wonderful collection of delicious food in a one off showcase on Sunday August 13 with a cute and the smallest French Bistro I have ever come across which was overseen by one of Strand Quay’s baby Seagull.
The first inviting stall which caught my eye had a variety of amazing cakes from the “Creperie de Normandie”, all of them too scrumptious to resist.
Next was something totally different, “Savoir Fayre”, offering sausages from everywhere in France, which looked tasty and he was very busy with customers. Further along was a Spanish offering of of a huge pan with colourful paella and tables set up in the sun, just like in Spanish little villages.
Other stalls were from France and Italy, more patisserie and wonderful bread as well as a large selection of cheese at “Fromage de tout de France” and an amazing selection of soap. It was difficult to decide what to try first. The French, Spanish, Italian and English vendors were very friendly. Some lived in their home country, others were born abroad but have been in England for several years.
At the entry to the market were great pieces of garden furniture, solid and made out of chunky wood. The person responsible for selling it said that the World Market travels throughout England and sometimes to Ireland but does not go to Europe. Hopefully lots of people visited during the day and satisfied their taste buds.
