The Rye community centre was full to bursting with colour and perfume on Saturday August 31, with the largest number of entries the show has ever seen. What a perfect way to celebrate the 15th Crystal year. A fabulous array of vegetables, fruit, flowers, foliage, baking, photography and handicrafts were on display and with over 330 entries there was a lot to admire.
Delicious afternoon tea and cakes were also available courtesy of Landgate WI ladies who did a great job keeping visitors refreshed and making the show such a traditional event.
“It was lovely to see so many new people entering and winning this year,” said Lorna Hall, one of the organisers. “We are also incredibly grateful to all those businesses in Rye who supported us by sponsoring and advertising in our schedule.”
Dynamic Events, The George in Rye and Rye Allotment Associations were particularly generous as was Kirsty Doherty of Pure Creative Design who produced the wonderful, banner, flyer and schedule design.
Helena Hudd, Show Secretary and joint organiser, was kept very busy with her band of volunteers processing the entries, mustering the volunteer stewards and ensuring all the prizes went to the right people.
Thanks are due to the judges, who had a wonderful, but very challenging job and of course to deputy mayor Rebekah Gilbert, and her puppy Sophie, who presented all the prizes.
