St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Peasmarsh opened its doors for the annual flower festival this weekend, May 25, 26 and 27. The beautiful old church, built in Norman times, made an appropriate setting to celebrate the countryside. All manner of creative arrangements filled the space with colour and form, and welcomed every visitor into its venerable stone building.
The flower festival organised, as always, by Deidre Bull, continues to provide a welcome haven from the troubles of Brexit and daily life. Her enthusiasm and interest spur on the large number of arrangers to try and do better each year and this year was no exception. The process starts way back in March, when a topic is decided and the list of possible sites in the church is circulated. Then it’s up to the 18 helpers to decide which pedestal, entrance, window and pillar they want to work with. This year’s choice, ‘Celebrating our beautiful countryside’ certainly worked well and gave the chance for a variety of formal and informal arrangements.
As well as the flowers, teas and refreshments are provided and a raffle is held, all the monies in aid of church funds. Visitors were complimentary, the sun shone and a good weekend was had by all.
