Local man Rob Dixon, aka Dicko, has raised £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by staying off alcohol for a month.
He pledged to carry out Go Sober for October in its entirety (a challenge in which he was not allowed to consume any alcohol during the full month of October), and under ever-increasing pressure from peers to succumb to an alcoholic beverage, Dicko dug deep and sailed through the challenge.
His relentless efforts to ensure as many people as possible sponsored his worthy cause saw him achieve his £1,000 target.
He said: “I want to say a massive thank you to Amanda Bryant of The Cock Inn, Peasmarsh, Steve and Lisa Tindall of the Kings Head, Rye and all customers of both venues for their masses of support and sponsorship.”
On receiving the cheque outside the Cock Inn, Peasmarsh, on Wednesday December 29, fundraising officer Emma Grant of Macmillan Cancer Support said: “We can’t thank Rob and all his supporters enough for the amazing total raised. Last year 620 local people were awarded Macmillan grants to help with the costs of cancer, the £1,000 raised could help so many more local families in a similar way this year.”
