The sun shone brightly on our first It’s a ChaRYEity Knockout event last Saturday at Rye RFC in aid of the Hospital at Rye. It was lovely to hear so many people enjoying themselves, whether they were taking part in the Knockout games or just soaking up the fun atmosphere.

Ready for the off!

The Ryebellion Drummers built the anticipation for the start of the Knockout games by marching around the arena whilst the teams gathered to assess the course and discuss tactics. The mayor, Andi Rivett, said a few words before officially opening the Knockout competition. Then the fun really began for the seven teams who had bravely put forward willing members ready to bounce, slide and at times, crawl over the course. The Prehistoric Hospital Heroes, GMP Accountants, Team Tollett, the Rugbytots, The Queen’s Head and Rye Runners (who entered two teams) battled it out all morning before a well-earned break for lunch.

Kila and her amazing Flyball team gave a brilliant display whilst Cranbrook Brass Band played over the lunch break in the Knockout games. Those who had brought their four-legged friends along were given the chance to have a go at the course themselves which caused much excitement and tail wagging!

There was a superb display of classic cars from a variety of eras, kindly supplied by Bexhill 100, Hastings MG, Romney Retros and many other car enthusiasts. There were also a number of stalls and outdoor activities on site for our visitors’ entertainment.

Are we going the right way?

Frolicked Puppet Theatre performed three shows of Seeing Red (made possible by Applause Rural Touring) which were enjoyed by the very young and the not so very young. Their ingenious mobile theatre certainly sparked the imagination of their audience!

After lunch, the Knockout competition resumed and our enthusiastic teams were faced with the water games in their pursuit of the coveted title of It’s a ChaRYEity Knockout 2022 winners. The competition was fierce but very good humoured with every team entering into the spirit of the games. Congratulations to GMP Accountants who emerged victorious to claim the Winners Cup. Our valiant Prehistoric Hospital Heroes came a respectable 4th place. Thank you to all the teams for supporting the competition and to all their loyal entourage who cheered them on!

Bouncy castles are not just for children!

We are delighted to announce that we raised over £2,000 with further donations and team sponsorship expected. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of Electric Riser and Recliner Chairs to assist both our patients and staff.

We are hoping to hold another It’s a ChaRYEity Knockout competition next year so keep an eye out and start your training now!
