One constant in the various stages of lockdown, easing of restrictions, tier 2, tier 4 and now lockdown again has been the constant queue outside Knoops, the hot and cold chocolate shop at the Hilders Cliff side of the Landgate – and whether it is in the middle of a heatwave or on a dark wet and rainy afternoon, the popularity of Knoops never seems to wane.
Of course these days it seems as though a lot more people are going for walks and there is nothing nicer than a hot chocolate when the temperature drops. And the difficulties with travelling abroad seem to have resulted in a more diverse group of day trippers and holiday makers this year than Rye usually attracts.
Earlier this year, Knoops opened two branches in London, Clapham Junction and Kensington
This month Knoops is joining in with Veganuary – where many people opt for a plant-based diet. Their drink of the month is a 70% dark chocolate, oat milk and ginger concoction. So, as the tourist trade dries up, let’s make an effort to support this thriving, expanding local business.
