A few years ago a group of ladies from Rye and nearby villages met and decided that they would like to form a charity, particularly to raise funds for local charities that often get overlooked by larger charitable organisations. They decided to call their charity “Frolic”, Friends Raising Oodles of £s In good Company.
This group of ladies, numbering thirteen, are from Rye, Icklesham, Iden, Beckley, Ticehurst and Northiam. They raise funds by various events, one of which is a monthly working lunch at which they all contribute to Frolic. They have also organised fetes, jazz evenings, attend craft fairs and boot sales and have held several successful nearly new clothes sales at various venues.
Over the last few years they have made many donations to mainly local charities such as the Sara Lee Trust, Air Ambulance, Admiral Nurses, Rother First Responders, Women’s Refuge, Dragonflies, Family Support Workers, Rye Food Bank, Rye Street Pastors, Demelza, Rye Sailing Club Sail Ability (for less able people), Carers Association, Tilling Green Community Friends, Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team and Blue Cross.
Their next fund raiser is a another sale of nearly new clothes for ladies and children which is taking place in Northiam Church Centre, Main Street, Northiam on Wednesday May 17 from 11am to 4pm.
