Lights of Love services to remember a loved one and support St Michael’s Hospice will be held again this year on Sunday December 4 at both St Mary’s church, Rye and St Thomas’ church, Winchelsea. Both services commence at 3pm followed by a tree lighting ceremony at 4pm.

Each year, says the hospice, Lights of Love services offer the opportunity to make a tangible act of remembrance for loved ones no longer with us in the form of dedicating a star or heart on a Christmas tree. Whether your loved one received the care of St Michael’s Hospice or not, young or old, local or further afield, all can be remembered with Lights of Love.

Every year hundreds of people join together in the simple act of writing a personal message on either a star or a heart which cover our beautiful Christmas trees (inside each church) and each star or heart will be placed next to a light on a tree at the location of your choice.

You can choose between traditional silver stars, large gold stars or white hearts. Simply write your dedication directly onto the shape, using a waterproof pen will ensure your message remains visible.

Please do not use sticky tape or non-waterproof glue. Some people choose to write the name of their loved one, others write memories or messages, paint pictures, or add decorations or coloured ribbon for ease of identification. However you choose to complete your shape, it will be placed on a tree at your chosen church.

Each year, the names of all those commemorated during Lights of Love are entered into Books of Remembrance which will remain in the Hospice Chapel for the whole of 2017. For more information and Lights of Love packs, visit the St Michael’s Hospice shop at 31 Cinque Ports Street now.
