The Mermaid has raised more than £2,500 for charity by offering private tours of the unique 600-year-old inn. While work to restore and refresh the building was carried out, it was the perfect opportunity for people to discover the hotel, restaurant, Giant’s Fireplace bar and so much more.

The tours were very popular, with more than 230 people taking the opportunity to look into the secret passageway, discover the priest hole and hear all the stories from owner Judith Blincow of the inn’s 600 years of history.

Donations from the festive raffles and private tours have now reached £2,516, which will be presented to The National Deaf Children’s Society, The Mermaid’s favoured charity. Thank you to all who have supported us! The final date for donations is January 31, so if anyone feels they would like to make a donation, they can do so by phoning reception on 01797 223065 or calling in person at reception where there is a collecting box.
