On Thursday December 7, our local National Trust Association held its annual Christmas Party. But, this year it was a very different one – a Christmas Celebration Tea Dance! Maggie Brown, who organises the monthly talks, had what she considered a harebrained idea – and it became a very successful event!
Brede Village Hall was set up with seasonally decorated tables down each side, and plenty of dancing space in the centre. Jack Davidson, a local dancing instructor, came along to provide music, instruction and encouragement to help us let our hair down to celebrate Christmas – and very good he was too! Some of us on the committee had been a little sceptical about how many would stand up and join in. Oh we of little faith! Jack proved himself more than able to motivate even those of us with two left feet! In no time at all, we had learned the basics of a ‘social foxtrot’ and a ‘cha-cha-cha’, and able to actually enjoy moving around the dance floor without too much embarrassment.
We had our usual Christmas fare of nibbles and mulled wine, followed by sandwiches, sausage rolls, and mince pies. But this year the food highlight was individual Christmas Cakes, specially baked for the event, and presented on tiered cake stands. It really was a super occasion, enjoyed by all who came along. We cannot wait for Maggie’s ideas for next Christmas!
