It is nearly scallop time again

The 14th Rye Bay Scallop Week will take place between Saturday February 20 and Sunday February 28 2016. As usual there are many events and restaurants providing all things scallopy. All week there is a Fisherman’s Trail for the children with a prize at the end, details here.

There will be lots to entertain the adults as well. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs providing food to suit all prices and palates,. Please check if you need to book. If it is music you want in the evening there is a full list here.

Among the events are a town tour on Sunday 21 meeting outside St Mary’s church at midday and a number of demonstrations of scallop preparation and cooking at Rye Bay Fish, Market Fisheries and Olde World Wines. Webbe’s fish restaurant will be holding a full day scallop cookery course on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Monday 29. This is one for the chef of the house. If you fancy dinner and theatre then this is the thing for you, . On Saturday 27 there is a different entertainment when the Rye Singers celebrate their first 40 years. One final event to mention is the scallop race, What a load of old scallops, which takes place at 10am on Sunday 28 February starting at Rye Bay Fish and finishing at the Ship Inn, Strand Quay. A great experience to finish the week and still time for a drink and some more scallops.
