Rye has got a new Rector and she used to work as an actress, according to The Pendulum, the magazine of St Mary’s church. But the new Rector, the Rev. Kate Malin, has been appointed to Christ’s Church in Rye – UK Rye’s “twin” church in the New York suburb of Rye.
She graduated from Yale University with a BA in Theatre Studies in 1987 and worked as an actress in Washington DC, New York city and, of course, Los Angeles (Hollywood).
But she did a Masters in Divinity in New York in 2006 and was ordained priest that same year.
She comes to New York from serving as a Rector in Massachusetts, but has served as a curate and Rector’s assistant in Bronxville in New York before.
Rye UK keeps in close touch with Rye New York and had been waiting to hear who the church had chosen as their new Rector.
A choir from Christ’s Church is due to visit Rye this summer.
