Rural Past Times is a very popular family friendly show and this year is even more special as it’s the tenth show that it has been held.
As well as tractor and trailer rides and live music, you can expect to see vintage and working tractors, classic cars and heavy commercial vehicles, country pursuits and handicrafts, heavy horses and working machinery, horticulture for sale, tanks and military vehicles, ferret racing and a display ring!! What a fantastic selection and something for everyone. In addition, if all this wasn’t enough there will be refreshments and a beer tent and plenty of off road parking.
Events in past years have provided thousands of people with a very enjoyable weekend and this year, the venue has changed from Sedlescombe to Monkings Farm, Horns Cross, a stunning rural location with widespread views over open countryside.
The aim of the show is to provide an insight into the history of farming and other aspects of country pursuits, crafts and handicrafts and cottage industries. The monies raised will be shared amongst a selection of chosen charities, the majority being local.
The management group of Rural Past Times will not seek Charitable or Trust status, but will work on a non-profit making basis, budgeting for the future. In the event of any activity making a substantial surplus, this will be given to a charity or charities to be agreed by the group.
If you have never been to Rural Past Times you are seriously missing out. It’s not just a paradise for kids: mums, dads and grandparents will all find something to remember their day by, so don’t be bashful, make sure you put the date in your diary. There has been a huge amount of effort behind the scenes to put this show together and on the day the amazing selection of exhibitors will be giving up their time to entertain us, so the least we can do is support all their hard work and enjoy some good old fashioned fun.
With a bit of luck there will be no technology in sight, just a group of fascinating and highly skilled individuals, proud of their crafts and happy to share their wealth of knowledge with us. I will see you there – it’s a show not to miss!!
Rural Past Times is being held this year at Monkings Farm, Hastings Road, Horns Cross, East Sussex, TN31 6JG, just after the junction with the A28 and B2165. Look out for the signs nearer the time.
