The Rye Old Scholars Association is to hold its first reunion at the Cricket Pavilion on the Rye Salts on Saturday September 22. It is a follow-up to a very successful 1960s reunion that was held at Rye College in 2015.
The pavilion is named after Sidney Allnutt, who taught for many years at Rye Grammar School and an exhibition of school memorabilia will be on display in the recently named Richard Merricks Room. Richard – ‘Rick’ – was on old Rye Grammar School scholar. So there is a strong school connection with the pavilion.
The reunion starts at 7pm and goes until just before midnight and there will be a marquee. Assuming it is not too wet, people will be able to park on the Salts as well as the nearby car parks.
The main purpose of the evening is for old friends (and some former teachers) to get together and reminisce, but there will be a supper (included in the admission fee of £10), a raffle and, importantly, a licensed bar. There will also be music from the 1960s playing in the background.
Tickets can be bought in advance from Judith Blincow, email mermaidinnn@btconnect.com or on the door. The event is open to all old scholars, and their friends and families, who attended either Rye Grammar School, Rye County Secondary Modern School or Thomas Peacocke during the 1960s.
For further information contact timrothwell9@gmail.com. To help with numbers for catering, it would be helpful if people could let me know in advance if they intend to come and pay on the night.
