As lockdown eases hospitality venues in Rye and elsewhere have been welcoming visitors and making as much use of the space they have as they can – even if it is none at all.
The Waterworks (above) on the corner of Rope Walk and Tower Street is using every inch it can outside as its CAMRA award last year pulls in the customers and, when it can re-open inside, it is rumoured there is more space as the barrel storage has been reorganised.
In the meantime it continues to offer a two pint takeout service as well as local home deliveries.
Not far away through the Landgate and at the start of Hilder’s Cliff Knoops takeway service of chocolate drinks pulls in the people – who can then admire the view across the river to the marshes and the sea.
And only a few steps further on, Rye Lodge on East Cliff has customers on its outside space, The Deck, and looks forward to offering a full hotel service from May 17 – the government’s plans permitting. But, in the meantime, it is outside only in the mid-day sun.
