RNLI Rye Harbour’s Duck Hunt is the perfect way to enjoy the day while supporting a vital local cause.

On Sunday, April 20, from 11am to 3pm, families can follow the trail around Rye Harbour, spotting hidden ducks in the windows of local businesses that have kindly offered their support. Those who find them all will be rewarded with an Easter treat, generously donated by Tesco, Tenterden. A suggested donation of £2 per entry will go directly to RNLI Rye Harbour, helping to fund the lifesaving work of our volunteer crew.

Josephine Jennings, chair of fundraising at RNLI Rye Harbour explains: “This event is particularly special for me as it marks my first official fundraising event since becoming chair of fundraising. We are looking forward to engaging with the local community, welcoming families, and raising much-needed funds for our station.

“We are grateful for the generosity of local businesses displaying ducks in their windows, as well as the support from Tesco, Tenterden. A special thank you also to Eileen from the RNLI shop and other volunteers, who will be on hand on the day to help make the event a success. We look forward to seeing you on Easter Sunday from 11am until 3pm.”

Upcoming events and recruitment opportunities

Following the duck hunt, our next big fundraising event will be the RNLI Rye Harbour Dog Show on Saturday, May 24, organised by Morganne. The event will take place on the Green at Rye Harbour Holiday Park, promising a fantastic day for dog lovers while raising funds for your local station.

They are also actively recruiting new volunteers to expand their dedicated team at Rye Harbour RNLI.

Positions available include boat and shore crew, launch vehicle drivers, head launchers, launch authorities, shop volunteers, fundraisers, chair of the lifeboat management group, and press officer.

To find out more, come along to their recruitment weekend on April 5 and 6, from 10am to 4pm at the boathouse. Prospective volunteers can drop in, look around, and chat with crew members about what volunteering for the RNLI involves.

If you’re unable to attend but are interested in getting involved, you can contact the station by emailing rye-harbour@rnli.org.uk or call 01797 223693 for more information.

Josephine concludes: “We hope to see you at these events as we continue working together to save lives at sea.”
