Traction steam engines, vintage cars, motorcycles, and a myriad of agricultural machines from past and present take centre stage at the ever-popular Weald of Kent Steam Rally which takes place this weekend, August 5-6, at Little Engeham Farm, Woodchurch.
Preceding the rally, a number of traction engines, tractors and vintage vehicles will take part in a road-run around the local lanes to promote the event. They will arrive at Bilsington Priory (TN25 7AU) about 1pm for a lunch stop where the public are invited to meet the drivers and enjoy all the sights and sounds of steam. Refreshments and a bar will be available from 12:30pm.
Designed as a ‘traditional’ gathering and exhibition of steam, the Weald of Kent Rally boasts the largest collection of traction, wagon, roller, and portable engines in the south east. Over 40 full-size traction engines and a railway locomotive from the Kent and East Sussex Railway will be on display, along with 75 scale steam engines and over 200 classic cars, commercial vehicles, tractors, and motorcycles.
A vintage fair, trade stalls, horse and carriage, military hardware and a vintage working area will all add extra value to a unique family day out. Bill Giles, organiser of the rally said: “In the days before hi-viz and plastic tape, I remember steam as being a huge adventure and a fantastic social interaction for a young person. Rallies were a central focus for owners to come together and show off their pride and joy. I created the Weald of Kent Rally in an attempt to hark back to how I remember them from my childhood. From the huge numbers of people who have attended in recent years, I think a lot of people feel much as I do.”
The Weald of Kent Steam Rally is open from 10am – 5pm this Saturday and Sunday, August 5-6, at Little Engeham Farm, Woodchurch, TN26 3QY.
Due to a lack of 4G connectivity, entry and beer tent is cash only.
Pay at gate £10 adults, £5 children and senior citizens.
