Becoming a community first responder
As a community first responder (CFR) you will learn new skills and be part of a team of volunteers within the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) who give up their time to save lives. CFR roles for the area are opened a few times a year. If you are interested in applying and would like to speak to someone beforehand, please email us here.
Applications are submitted online through the NHS Jobs site. SECAmb hold selection interviews and the screening process includes a disclosure and barring service check (DBS), professional references and health clearance.
On successful completion of your training, you will receive a Level 3 First Responder on Scene (FROS) qualification, which meets and exceeds all of the requirements of the Level 3 award in first aid at work.
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid UK full driving licence held for at least one year, with no more than three penalty points
- Have access to a car with current tax, MOT and insurance for their use when volunteering
- Be able to attend regular training activities within their local area and undergo annual clinical competency assessments and online statutory and mandatory training
- Commit to booking on to respond to potential emergencies for at least 20 hours per month
- Commit to a minimum term of volunteering of two years
- Be able to support public engagement events and fundraising activities
