In Rye, the local Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) provide regular low cost meals for the community.

After Rye’s “Big Help out” coronation lunch on May 8, Chris Emson and her RVS team went on to provide a traditional tea on May 18 in the Tilling Green Community Centre. Some 75 people participated supported by 10 volunteer helpers.

The helpers provided large amounts of home made sandwiches, scones and cakes. Tea was served in china pots and china sets.

A musical interlude was provided by the Round Rye Bay Singers, mostly from Rye Harbour and led by Martin Bruce. They sung some traditional and occasionally bawdy sea shanties!

Christopher Breeds called the raffle. I gave thanks to Chris and her team for arranging the event. The next event will be a lunch on June 26 in the community centre, Conduit Hill, Rye.
