Shoppers may have noticed an unusually crowded Cinque Ports Street last Saturday morning, February 17. Amazingly, Rye Runners did a special run to Rye Foodbank with a large crowd of fit people delivering a whopping 35 bags of food accompanied by a generous financial donation. This was part of a nationwide initiative, called Food Bank Run, that encourages running clubs to help their local community by organising a run to the food bank. Rye Foodbank volunteers were on hand to receive the very welcome goods and were blown away by the wonderful support and generosity of Rye Runners.
Rye Runners has been going since 2010 and welcomes adult runners of all abilities to fully coached and supported sessions on Wednesday evenings (6:30pm) and Saturday mornings (9am). The club meets at the cricket pavilion on the salts. For those not yet running, there are regular beginners courses – one of which is currently underway (contact Rye Runners at info@ryerunners.com).
An extremely cheerful and happy event on a wet and windy February morning cannot help but remind us that so many regard Rye Foodbank as a port in a storm. Rye Foodbank is a safe and welcoming space and works with partners who provide face to face benefit advice and debt counselling for those seeking help. Rye Foodbank is open in the lower hall of the Baptist Church, Cinque Ports Street every Wednesday from 12 noon to 3pm.
Rye Foodbank is 100% voluntary. If you or anyone you know is in need of support for any reason please do contact us or come and visit. The food bank phone number is 07526 349847; email ryefoodbank@gmail.com or visit the website https://ryefoodbank.com/
Thank you everyone for all your support for our community food bank.
