A year ago, the then Rye mayor, Councillor Rebekah Gilbert said: “This empty shop has been transformed for the benefit of our town – and it is great to see the results of many weeks of hard work by the community hub and Sunflower shop team. Recycling and upcycling are fantastic for the environment as well as our wallets – and what better way to encourage this?”
One year on, it is wonderful to report that it has been an amazing success. This is partly because of the happy, hard-working and friendly staff who all take their lead from manager Clair. She is bubbly, a ball of energy and never stops. Her windows are vibrant and echo the seasons or the special days. All this takes a great deal of planning and creativity. Clair has all these in spades.
The key to the success is also having loyal customers and the Sunflower shop has many of those. Patricia Jones wrote in the comments book, “I am in the Sunflower at least three times a week. Such a lovely atmosphere, very friendly and helpful people run it. The manageress Clair is lovely, sociable, helpful and is always cheerful, just like her volunteers.”
Another happy shopper said that she is in regularly and finds wonderful bargains and loves the friendliness of the staff.
The shop is always looking for volunteers so if you would like to be part of this amazing team pop in and have a chat to Clair.
Congratulations to all those who have made this first year such a success.

Are the balloons used as the celebration decoration recyclable ?
Other wise congratulations to the all those who make the shop so successful..
And an excellent way of keeping things out of landfill by having a second chance of use..
How do the profits of the charity help those who are part of the Rye community?
As the previous charity shop did.
