The latest report from Sussex Community Foundation (SCF) tells the story of how people across Sussex have responded to the onset and impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Sussex Crisis Fund appeal was launched on Friday, March 20, 2020 and the response was immediate. £2 million was awarded in grants by the end of August and by November last year over £4.21million in total had been raised and distributed direct to local communities where the need was greatest. Hundreds of charities and voluntary groups were enabled to continue their essential work throughout these most challenging of times.
Great support came from the two county councils of East and West Sussex and from the National Emergencies Trust. Most importantly, also recognised were the many hundreds of individuals, families, local businesses, charitable trusts and community fund-holders who have given so generously to the Sussex Crisis Fund.
SCF CEO Kevin Richmond writes: “We know the economic fallout from the pandemic will continue for some time to come. Inequality has widened substantially but we have also seen how other issues have been bought into sharper focus. This includes challenges associated with loneliness and isolation, with mental health, with opportunities for children and young people and the disparity in health and wealth outcomes experienced by many from minority communities.
“We intend to support, in the months and years to come, the amazing work of these grassroots community groups who have the expertise to help those who need it most We can help you do so too.”
