Each year, the Sussex Heritage Trust selects examples of the best building design, construction and craftmanship newly demonstrated across the width of East and West Sussex.
Nominations for awards are invited and judged by a team of volunteers who visit and report on each entry, assessing the quality of its contribution to the landscape, its context, its effectiveness and originality which brings it out of the ordinary. In many cases, recognition is given to the skilful adaptation of existing buildings which already possess inherent architectural quality but need to be brought into and made more relevant to the modern age.
More important however is the encouragement given to architects, and the building industry as a whole to create the highest quality of which they are capable. This year the deadline for award entries is Friday, March 25 and the entry pack is now available on their website, or by email office@sussexheritagetrust.org.uk. Judging will take place on May 18 and 19.
There is still time to sponsor the 2022 awards and support the work of the Sussex Heritage Trust. From just £600, you can support the most important Sussex-wide architectural and conservation award schemes, as well as encouraging the use of traditional skills and crafts.
The trust is also active in providing educational opportunities for young people and people based in Sussex from all walks of life, who are or hope to be in the construction industry.
Full and part-funded bursaries are available to support those wishing to attend short courses on building conservation techniques at the Weald and Downland Living Museum and West Dean College of Arts and Conservation.
