Christopher Cooper may not be a name which many of you know but, in the world of traditional roof lanterns, his company, which has been trading for over 30 years, is a market leader, having produced in excess of 7,500 bespoke wooden or aluminium roof lanterns to a huge client base across the country.
Traditional Roof Lanterns Ltd operates out of three large units on Rye Industrial Estate off Rye Harbour Road where I met Logistics Manager Simon Crumpler who gave me a socially distanced guided tour of their whole operation.
And I was staggered at the size of the business and the variety of products on offer. They will either tailor make to clients specifications or, for those on a more limited budget, there are many designs available in “off the shelf” packages which can be adjusted to the customer’s individual requirements.
The company works with architects, builders, owner occupiers and developers from small properties to stately homes and everything in between for both residential and commercial buildings. Their consultation includes a feasibility study, bespoke design to manufacture, and then installation. Many finished examples are available to see at their showroom on site where you can book an appointment to see the products being made.
As well as bringing in additional daylight and ventilation, the roof lanterns are durable, low maintenance and they add style and impact to any room as well as a feeling of openness and space, suitable for modern or period properties. Made from hardwood timber (FSC) and glass, each roof lantern can be custom made in either a classical or contemporary design. As an alternative, they are also able to offer similar roof lanterns in aluminium for those looking for a modern contemporary feel.
I witnessed various product examples in different stages of construction and, as the photographs show, they make a huge difference to a room, reception space or hallway, and have been installed locally in the Rye area as well as across the country and wherever their reputation and client base takes them.
If you fancy a visit to their showroom you will not be disappointed, call on 01797 224483 or email on enquiries@rooflanterns.co.uk or go to their website www.rooflanterns.co.uk where you can also find their social media platforms.
The current pandemic has had an effect on the business, but orders are coming in and installations are being planned. But if you get the chance to pay them a visit I’m sure your trip won’t be in vain.
