I was delighted to receive Clare Cosson’s invitation to come and share a coffee with her at the Tillingham Estate in Peasmarsh. Clare is the events manager at Tillingham Wines and we were joined by Tom Wade, the general manager who explained how their roles had evolved as part of this new and hugely exciting business, developed deep in the heart of the Sussex countryside.

The vines are growing, the wine is on its way!

As you approach the estate along the main drive your attention is drawn to the recently planted vines which will be ready to harvest in due course. My journey took me to a large floodlit and dry car park where signs clearly marked where to go from there but not until I had a chance to savour the amazing views as far as Dungeness and in the foreground the unmistakable silhouette of the Rye townscape. The views are breath taking over vineyards, woodland and paddocks as far as the eye can see, what a location and what a stunning venue for that special celebration or party.

The wine tasting room is very inviting.

Keen to see more, Clare showed me round the estate, set in 70 acres of rolling hills with a collection of converted agricultural buildings incorporating the reception area, restaurant with additional private dining room, bar, bottle shop, wine-tasting room and shop selling wines and produce, all with exceptional views over the vineyards and open countryside.

In addition there are 11 sumptuously appointed en-suite bedrooms converted from a former hop barn, available to book between Wednesday and Sunday nights and with a dinner service available within the restaurant on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The lounge and bars are also open to non residents and I couldn’t think of a better place to visit for a glass of something special, maybe a bite to eat and the chance to sit comfortably in delightful surroundings, relax and enjoy the tranquillity.

A wonderful entertaining space, restaurant and private dining room for those intimate celebrations.

The business is evolving, bookings and events are now regular and it’s obvious this business is fast becoming a great success. There is a real opportunity for those looking to work in a very special environment – Tillingham is recruiting now and is keen to secure front of house, kitchen and waiting staff, porters and domestic staff and in due course gardeners, drivers and maintenance teams. What an amazing place to work and what an opportunity to share in the success of an up and coming business.

Contact them now at info@tillingham.com, these jobs won’t be around for long, don’t miss the opportunity!

The McCully and Crane designed interior combines the buildings agriculuiral origins with modern style and comfort.

Conversely, why not drop in one day, see what it’s all about, meet Clare and Tom and sample some of the wines on offer and if you have a special celebration coming up and are looking for a party venue with a difference or somewhere special to stay and unwind, look no further, Tillingham ticks all the boxes.

The smell in the bonded warehouse was intoxicating.
