There are two opportunities coming up to enable you to have your say in future transport changes.
Firstly, East Sussex County Council (ESCC) want residents to have their say in the future of transport in the county and have drafted the East Sussex Local Transport Plan 2024 – 2050. For their overview and link to the plan go here
The plan sets out how ESCC will plan and provide transport for residents, businesses and visitors in East Sussex now and for future generations, to help connect them with the places they need to go on a daily basis. Paraphrasing ESCC’s overview in their consultation document, ESCC’s local transport vision is to:
- enable safer and more accessible journeys
- develop healthy places to enable people to live well
- decarbonise transport to help us to achieve net zero targets by 2050 at the latest
- maintain and strengthen transport networks so that they are resilient
- support a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable economy within coastal towns, market towns and villages in more rural areas.
You will see at the beginning of the consultation document there is an invitation to a series of drop-in opportunities to discuss the consultation: one is at Rye Library on Friday, January 19 from 10am to 4:15pm (closed at lunch from 12:30pm – 1:30pm). MLAG hopes local residents will have the time to pop in to see what’s happening (but it is noted this timing doesn’t help our working community). If you aren’t able to attend the drop-in session, the consultation document contains an online survey so do try to respond. Note, survey responses need to be lodged with ESCC by 25 February.
Secondly, MarshLink Action Group (MLAG) will be holding its annual general meeting on Friday, February 23 at Rye Town Hall. The formal part of the meeting will start at 6:45pm followed by presentations and a Q&A session. Speakers will include representatives from Southern Railways, Network Rail and Sally-Ann Hart MP.
Do come along if you can and contribute to exchanges.
