Treasurer hunt by nursery

Ferry Road Nursery has its AGM on Wednesday May 8 at 7pm where it hopes to be able to recruit a new treasurer to support the committee.

The nursery is in a really exciting phase with the expansion plans in place and more details of this are due to be shared at the AGM. With Rye Town Council as the landlords, the nursery already has a lot of support for growth and providing much-needed additional spaces for childcare in this area. Ferry Road Nursery offers care 50 weeks of the year from 8am to 6pm for children as young as three months old enabling parents to get back to work if need be.

For early years provision this is a testing time, with many nurseries closing under the pressure of subsidised funding, however Ferry Road Nursery remains strong and in good demand. It is close to capacity and the management team is constantly working hard to juggle spaces to avoid turning anyone away.

In an attempt to inspire attendance and enthusiasm for what some might think is a “boring” meeting, the committee has joined forces with Rye Deli to offer cheese and wine to tempt people in and show that being part of a project and team such as this can be fun.

With funds in the region of £150k to raise for the build project alongside crucial fundraising for additional resources for the nursery day to day, the hunt to find a confident and positive treasurer is critical. The nursery has been blessed to have Kirsty Doherty as their treasurer for more than five years. She has done a fabulous job and despite having been begged to stay, now is the time for her to move on and give her time to other things.

However, for the lucky person taking over, Kirsty will without doubt be on hand for a thorough handover and ad hoc assistance when required. This lady is testament to an overriding USP the nursery has which is retention of staff. Ferry Road Nursery hosts staff and committee members who have been involved there for more than 30 years. Some are even seeing children of parents they once cared for!

Its a fabulous family of people who strive every day to be the best starting influence on young people, preparing them for school and the world ahead.

If you think you would be interested in joining the committee or specifically the role of treasurer, please get in touch with the nursery for more information.
