Fusion food and Latin jazz hit the right notes when diners at local restaurant The Devil in Rye were treated to a memorable evening last Friday May 17 when their delicious meal was complemented with live Latin acoustic jazz.

The hugely talented Paul Richards Duo entertained all evening, a combination of Latin and Spanish acoustic guitar jazz which blended beautifully with the ambiance and colourful menu on offer.

The restaurant has a real surprise behind the High Street frontage as it backs directly onto the amazing medieval monastery, a superb backdrop which at night is floodlit and framed by the full-width glazed picture windows for a very special dining experience.

Owner Dev Biswal (pictured) is highly regarded for his culinary talents and didn’t disappoint on the night. His guests enjoyed a six-course meal from a very varied menu including frittata of exotic mushrooms, tomato and red pepper soup with chutneys and mango salad, a trio of vegetarian street food with crispy poori, sweet potato dumpling and steamed vermicelli cake.

The grilled tilapia salad was an interesting dish with cucumber, spinach leaves and an orange dressing and for chicken lovers the Singapore chicken was served with dauphinoise potatoes, mint and coriander chutney with a lemon-grass sauce, lentils with spinach. Kerala style British slow-cooked beef with seasonal vegetables and pulao rice completed the main courses and to follow were chocolate samosa, passion fruit and guava parfait.

The inclusive price was £39.99 per person but if you are a privilege-card holder this dropped to £35.99.

The evening was very well received and there will be more of the same to come. The jazz tasting experience is a tried and tested formula which Dev regularly hosts at his Canterbury and Margate restaurants.
