It has been a proud grandad moment during the past few months for me. In May, Max and Imogen Moore, aged 5 and 3 respectively, took part in the 27th Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club community sponsored walk and raised a staggering £1,120 for the two charities that I am associated with. Max and Imogen walked the full 8 miles in some unpleasant weather conditions on the day.

Both charities have been chosen by the mayor of Rye, Rebekah Gilbert, for her fundraising in her second year of office. Other events she has planned from now until March 2022 include a recently successful concert at Winchelsea, Proms night, a quiz night, a “No Hair Mayor” challenge in December, a scallop and sea shanty evening in February, a gala dinner in March and a scratch singing of The Messiah in April.

Max and Imogen were recognised by the Rotarians on Sunday, August 15 with special framed certificates presented to them by Rye & Winchelsea president, Stuart Raine.

The Rye Wurlitzer Academy fund raises money to teach students at Rye College theatre organ technique and is only one of two projects like it in the world. Over 120 students have benefitted from the project since it started in 2009.

The Rye Old Scholars Generation X Opportunity Fund is a new fund set up to help Rye old scholars up to the age of 25 with new business and training incentives. Both charities are delighted with the support that Rebekah is giving.
