Rye News is a weekly online paper that is run by volunteers – be they contributors, photographers, the editor, sub-editors, or those who upload the paper to publish the latest issue or send out the weekly email alert once it has been published.
At present we need help with sub-editing the paper. This involves reading articles to check and correct spelling and grammatical errors, making sure the text and design conforms to house style to maintain consistency, doing simple fact checking, and communicating with writers and the editor when necessary. Two subs edit each article so you will not be working on your own, and you will only need to commit a few hours a week on a Wednesday, usually afternoon or evening after the midday deadline and / or Thursday morning – we publish on Thursday afternoon. Training on WordPress, which we use to produce the paper, and also in house style, will be given.
