It has become a tradition at Rye Fire Station that the firefighters, with valued help from ex-firefighters and local people, deliver parcels dressed as Father Christmas on Christmas morning. All the help is voluntary and monies raised are donated to the National Firefighters’ Charity.
Shane at the fire station told me: “We have up to five Santas, five vans and five helpers and we leave the station around 8:30am to deliver to young and old members of our community.
“This is what you need to do: the sender comes to the fire station on Christmas Eve between 9am – 3pm where we take the parcel and allocate it to one of our rounds. We ask for a donation of £3 per parcel.
“We also have a raffle which is drawn at the end of Christmas Eve where we can either deliver any win on Christmas morning or arrange collection from the station after the festive period.”
Please help keep this tradition to thrive and you don’t have to have children to get a visit from the great man himself.
