Hosts needed for French students

Families in Rye have the chance to host a French student for two weeks this summer, and get paid for it.

Paris-based language company, LEC, is running an English language learning course for 30 students in Rye for the first time this year, and is looking for local residents willing to welcome French students into their homes. Caroline Boot, the LEC local organiser, is keen to talk to families who can help improve the students’ English and give them a taste of British lifestyle and hospitality. The visit also offers Rye families an opportunity to learn about French culture and life, and make new friends. You don’t need to speak French – they’re here to improve their English.

The students have English language classes at Tilling Green Community Centre every weekday morning from 9am until 12:30pm followed by an afternoon of organised sports activities and excursions in Rye and the local area until 5:30pm supervised by the teachers they travel over with. Weekends are a chance to get to know the students and perhaps show them the local area.

The students, aged between 11 and 20, will be staying in Rye from July 10 for 13 nights and leaving on July 23. Families offering to host will be paid £351 for one student and £676 for two students. This is for full board and laundry services, though lunch in the week is a packed lunch that they can eat on the go.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Rye residents, activity centres and local businesses to maximise the potential of these visits. If this pilot course goes well, LEC has committed to sending at least one group a month from April to September in 2026 making it a serious business opportunity for the town.
