Hosts needed for Ukrainian refugees

The Homes for Ukraine (H4U) Scheme has been running since Spring 2022. The Rye H4U Hub, run by volunteers, has been coordinating support with other bodies, such as Rother Voluntary Action, for Ukrainian families (mostly women and children) taking refuge in the Rye area. The Rye Hub links to similar groups in other parts of Rother and Hastings.

At the start of the H4U scheme, over 2 years ago, some 25 families were engaged with the hub but now the number has dropped to around 10. Some refugees have returned to Ukraine; some have moved elsewhere in UK. However it is noticeable that after recent Russian attacks on civil infrastructure, the Rye Hub has received calls from Ukrainians at home (some who went home from Rye and some unknown) who would like to come to UK to escape the attacks.

Work is still underway to support Ukrainians in the Rye area and to see if there are any new local people who would like to act as a host for one or more Ukrainians.

The scheme is outlined here.
